Empowering Academic Improvement, Strengthening Scientific Research Empowerment—A Review of 2023 Spring Semester Academic Counseling

In order to study and implement the report of the 20th National Congress of the Party, strive to cultivate top innovative talents, create a good academic atmosphere, and strive to improve the learning ability and scientific research ability of all students in the School, in the spring semester of 2023, BNUBS actively reached out to academic experts, outstanding teachers, alumni and students, and carried out more than 40 academic counseling activities and various forms of learning style construction activities in various forms of lectures, forums, seminars and practices. Based on the three-in-one education system, the activity has achieved good results by focusing on academic frontier, enabling power and enhancing efficiency, peer exchange and innovative practice in multiple dimensions.

Academic Frontier

Effectively promoting academic exchanges and enhancing innovative academic research capabilities. In order to help teachers and students grasp the academic frontier, BNUBS invited a number of academic experts and outstanding teachers in various fields to hold 21 academic frontier lectures in this semester, including 4 Experts Forums from high-level experts from colleges and universities at home and abroad, 2 Youth Academic Salons, 10 Academic Lectures in professional fields, 1 roundtable forum, A seminar for OBHRM young scholars and 3 "Beixian Book House" online sharing activities. More than 1,000 people have participated in various types of academic lectures.

Enabling Power and Enhancing Efficiency

In order to help graduate students accumulate teaching practical experience, exercise teaching ability, and provide more diversified communication and learning channels for undergraduate and graduate students, BNUBS launched the "BNUBS· Doctoral and Postgraduate Students Education Training Program" this semester. In the first session of the program, five doctoral students, including Tu Xiwei, Ma Zihao, Zeng Xiaoping, Sheng Yuxin, and Han Jinrong, shared their experiences on topics such as thesis selection, data processing, literature reading, and thesis writing.

Peer Exchange

In order to give full play to the role of peer assistance, and cultivate students' self-education, self-management and self-service capabilities, the School invited 23 senior students to carry out 7 periods of peer experience sharing activities on the topics of returning home research, basic project, American College Students Mathematical Modeling Competition, National English Competition for College Students, postgraduate education, postgraduate entrance examination, interdisciplinary research, etc. It has attracted a large number of students to participate, and provided practical suggestions for students in different grades and different learning stages. Consequently, peer communication has been strengthened, and the sharers have also learned from this, forming a good atmosphere for mutual help and common progress among students.

In order to form a good atmosphere of individualized teaching and mutual learning, the School launched the undergraduate "Climbing Plan" in this semester, aiming to establish a platform for all undergraduates of our School to mentor each other and make progress together. The academic counseling room recruited many excellent students to share knowledge, experience and methods for other students to learn and exchange. A total of two group tutoring activities were held in this semester. We invited Li Yuhan from 20 Finance, Wang Junyi from 21 Economics and Liu Yun from 21 International Trade to hold a forum on “Learning Excellent 'English' Tips on English learning Skills.” Zeng Jiayu from 21 Economics and Hao Xinmeng from 21 Economics were invited to carry out the "Q&A Session on Micro and Macro Economics" to consolidate and strengthen the major and difficult points of the subject and improve academic performance. At the same time, the "Climbing Plan" counseling team has been established in the form of volunteer recruitment, with about 20 core members at present. The counseling team was encouraged to set up a learning mutual support group, regularly organize learning activities, answer questions and solve doubts with each other, and create a good style of study.

Innovative Practices

In order to consolidate the basic economic literacy and broaden the carrier of learning style construction activities, the School continued to promote scientific research through party building, promote the style of study through league building, encourage academic exchanges within the vertical branch, and innovate the form of activities. We organized a "Sharing opinions on economy through comics" event to help people understand economics in a popular comic format. In the "BNUBS Culture Festival", we carried out activities such as the revival of abacus use, economic knowledge competition, multicultural competition, popular language learning. We also held special activities like weekly news push of "Talking about Stock ", monthly review of current affairs of "Relish of Words", push series of competition guide, push series of exam special series of "Gifting Skills", and training of all kinds of skills. It has created a positive learning atmosphere and helped realize the all-round scientific research and education of our School.

BNUBS would always adhere to the student-oriented principle, three complete education, continue to promote academic counseling, and continue to bring more attractive academic activities. We are committed to allowing students at all levels of the School to improve, gain and create in the study and research work, let them make breakthroughs at the help of teachers, and make progress with the help of friends, to help the construction of "Double First-class" disciplines and "Double First-class" universities.
